Divide the group into two teams. Draw a baseball diamond on the board, or set up four bases around the room. The first player must choose to receive a single, double, triple, or home run question, based on its relative difficultly. If the student answers the question correctly, they move to the corresponding base, if not, they are out. Proceed through the members of that team until they have three outs, at which time the other team takes their turn at bat. The team that gets around the bases the most times wins.

The questions should be chosen based on the group’s overall level, and can include music history, music theory, general music knowledge, listening examples, etc. These questions should then be divided into four levels of difficulty to correspond to the number of bases earned by their correct response.

Sample questions for a lower level class might include:

What is a sharp and what does it do?

Play a one octave D major scale.

What does forte mean?

What is the opposite of a crescendo?

Who wrote Minuets 1, 2, and 3?

Sample questions for a more advanced class might include:

What key has four sharps?

What is the relative minor of C major?

What is a cadenza?

What does Andante mean?

Play a g natural minor scale.
